- For Parents
Thank you for considering us for your child’s educational needs. We know finding a school for a child with a learning difference can be an overwhelming process. We hope that the information provided in the following pages will make the process easier and help you decide whether our school is a good fit for your child.
Crossroads students are healthy, bright children who are unable to thrive in a traditional academic setting, either socially or academically. Crossroads School provides an educational environment that is respectful of each student’s unique needs and learning styles, and encourages each student to maximize his or her own potential. With individually developed educational plans that include remedial and compensatory learning techniques, students soon learn that they can be successful and flourish.
Our faculty, staff and board of directors have an unwavering commitment to the students, the families and the school. We hope to have the privilege of working with your child.
Crossroads School, Inc. is an accredited, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit school designed to address the educational needs of children with learning differences such as: Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia, processing disorders, language disorders as well as the learning difficulties associated with ADHD and children who have not performed well in traditional school settings. At Crossroads, they are given the academic and social support they need to reach their highest potential. Students attend from Houston and the surrounding metropolitan areas including Sugar Land, Spring, Pearland, and Katy.
Crossroads students are children who simply need to learn in their own special way. Some of our students are gifted and talented; some have learning differences due to a medical condition or due to pre-adoption circimstances.
Whatever the cause, Crossroads specializes in making it possible for these children to become successful students. Our faculty and staff provide a safe place where the individual strengths and talents of each student can shine. Most return to a traditional school environment and all go on to reach their highest potential.
Created in 1977 in a remodeled 1960’s home in the Galleria area, all nine classrooms are still in use today. Our school is committed to serving students with a variety of learning differences. At Crossroads School we teach children who learn in atypical ways how to become their own “best expert." Crossroads School addresses each child’s unique educational needs and provides them with the necessary skills to mainstream into a conventional classroom environment.
The Crossroads "Out of the Box" teaching philosophy is based on the following tenets:
Our innovative teaching methods, along with our dedicated faculty, help each student incorporate executive functioning training, social skills, and self-advocacy. The strong relationships that develop promote a learning environment where students feel safe and valued. The Crossroads academic program initially looks like any other with English, math, social studies, science and electives. However, when you look inside the classroom you see a remarkable difference in the teaching of content, process and product.
Crossroads School, Inc. is a licensed, TAAPS accredited, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
